Humanisticum is the faculty organization for the students at the Faculty of Arts at the University of Helsinki. It was founded in 1966 and is the umbrella organization for 36 student associations with around 8000 members at the faculty.

Humanisticum brings together the students at the faculty through different kinds of events ranging from traditional Finnish academic dinner parties (sitsit) to game nights and seminars. We also take part in the big student events throughout the year like sledding on Shrove Tuesday, the celebrations on Vappu, the torch parade on Independence Day and much more! The best way to meet Finns and get to know Finnish student traditions is to dive right in and give everything a try! Our events are open to all students of the faculty and can be found through our Facebook page.

If you want to sign up to our mailing list, do the following:

Student associations are at the center of Finnish university life and almost every subject has its own subject organization. Joining your subject organization is a great way to get to know your fellow students. In addition, there is a wide range of other organizations at the university as well, including hobby organizations and international ones. You can find a list of them all on the web page of the Student Union.

Humanisticum also promotes the interests of the faculty students in the academic side of things, namely matters of university administration and policy changes. Our aim is to have everyone’s back when it comes to academic policy, and that includes international students. We welcome any questions or suggestions you might have, and want to give you the opportunity to get involved in improving things at the university.

Humanisticum does what its members want it to. If you have a great idea for an event or something else you want us to address, you can always join one of our committees or get in touch with the board member in charge or our board member for international affairs, or contact us through our Facebook page. See you at Humanistiklusteri!
